Deck Description

Just trying out Tarkir themed decks for the first time, and I decided to see what I could do with prowess. Suggestions are appreciated.

How to Play

Prowess, trigger it by casting and recasting spells with rebound (or get them again with the spirit guy) or do a nice buff with assult strobe to swing for massive burst damage (sometimes unblockable). Jeskai Ascendancy and Strongarm Monk make the casting of non creature spells more awarding. There are more removal cards in the sideboard in case it is needed.

Coat of arms also makes these proud monks bolstered in eachother's presence, but this should only be used if facing a non-tribal opponent.

Deck discussion for Playing with Prowess

Good deck but I have to say that I would add temples if I were you

My my! Coat of arms with a bunch of human monks WITH prowess?! Mighty fine deck! I also enjoy your use of flickering ward in this, keeps your prowess from running out.

I'd really like to suggest something for you...my only thought is that you need more instants...but what to get rid of and what to add...I do not know. Sorry!

Overall, nicely done!

Also, I see you have many deck which are not public, pick one out for me, one you may want to build or something you think is unique.
Everybody has some deck that nobody else has ever done, bring it to the table!

I kinda got shocked at the price of my deck, untill I realized that the cost of the monastery mentor skyrocketed. What's up with that?

Cavern of souls is majority of that...but mentor has found a home in modern, vintage, and legacy as a staple in combo decks. Most of those like storm or POX can benefit fom mentor and amass a ton of tokens as their contingency plan. Sadly that raised the price drastically.

Oh shoot haha, how did I miss that xD. I see, interesting. I knew that card had mucho potential

Replace Strongarm with souldblade djinn? Also maybe drop Dragon-bell monk, its really just not a very efficient use of your mana. Also you really don't have any removal or counters, so that would be nice to clear something problematic out of the way while also triggering prowess. Also something with flashback would be able to trigger prowess multiple times.

I really like this deck it looks really strong. Good Luck!

Alrighty, I see where you are going with this. I removed the dragonbell monk, and the Djin dude is neat, however he doesn't benefit from the Coat of Arms or Cavern of souls because his creature type is djin, not human, but I will think about this. And you are correct about the removal/counters, I will look at that in depth as soon as I can. Thanks for the review!

Oh and if you have any mana cheap removal/ counterspells that makes sense here, please do suggest it. Flashback huh? I'll give that a look too

I most likely would remove brave the elements to fit them in

Although expensive, Path to Exile is the best removal for white. On the same note though, I've often experienced that having more threats requires the opponent to focus more on using all of their answers, therefore, if you have more threats you don't need as many answers as you would otherwise.

If I had to recommend a new set of instants, it would be:
4 boros charm
4 path to exile
1 flying crane tech

Apostle's blessing is also killer for white decks. You can punch through for the final damage or save your big hitter.

Ok now I understand the Strong-arm Monk as opposed to the djinn, now that I see that I would just leave the monk. As for removal, I have to agree with granflux that path to exile is probably the best despite its cost. I would also drop brave the elements, but I would keep the Azores charm, mostly for the ability to put an attacking creature on the top of its owners library: this not only stops an attack, but it removes one of their creatures and steals their draw step, but I think Boros charm is nice. I think the instants that you decide to run are really about how you like to play and the particular cards that fit well with your strategy, so really the best way to determine what instants to use is playtesting.

I see, so about this Path to Exile, what about swords to plowshares? I was on gatherer reading the discussion on Path to Exile and stumbled upon it.

Swords to Plowshares is really good too, but if you're two or three damage away from killing them and they only have one creature stopping you from squeezing that damage in, Swords to Plowshares is not the answer you want to see. Path is better in about 70-80% of scenarios (in my opinion) but also about 70-80% more expensive. But they're really similar cards, so it just depends on how much you're willing to spend.

Okay thanks for clarifying the difference. I will stick with Path to Exile. Oh and haha I wasn't intending on getting all the cards in the deck :P Mostly I am gonna proxy it. Btw Granflux, I added an extra boros in compliance to your version of my instants, but also kept the Azorious charm. I decided to move dawn charm to sideboard. Am I good with removal now guys?

Lol I always feel that way when buying cards, never goes away...and I've been playing for quite some time... By no means is azorius charm bad btw, I just don't normally think of it, but if you're using it to put an attacker on top, it's brilliant.

Thank you Nerddude345 and Granflux for helping me with this deck! I am going to proxy it today and play it as well. I'll mention how it goes and if you guys want me to check out a deck of yours, I may see what I can do.

Well since you mention it...this is a deck I play in legacy/vintage tournaments and actually see huge success with. I've finished top 8 now 10 or so times. All for $50!

No need to comment, it's just more of a suggestion for you to purchase if you're looking to break into the eternal format(s) and want to see some success without being broke.

Hope you enjoy!

No Problem! I think that commenting on others people decks is one of the best ways to get better at this game and thats why I do it! As for decks...I have a control deck that I like a lot but I'm currently struggling with what to sideboard. I think I've worked out all the kinks but if you wanna take a look I'd really appreciate that!
