Deck Description

So, here's my dragon deck. Tell me what you think! :D

Edit: Thank you all for making this deck so popular. I thank you all for your likes and comments. At this point I would request that people stop complaining about how 'slow' this deck is or how few rites/seething this deck has. This deck does indeed work and is able to win many a game. I continue to encourage new ideas for my deck and appreciate constructive criticism!

Deck discussion for Jund Dragons

ok i have been here and done this a few years ago. get my best dragons put them in a deck and blame it should work right? well kinda. u need to focus on what dragon or maybe even couple dragons u want to really use and start there. after u get that done then the real tweaking can begin. =]

Perchance do you think you could find me an example of what a 'finished' dragon deck should look like then? I'm not 100% sure if I follow what you're getting at. I've found this deck to be rather consistent with what it does...

well it depends on the style. easiest example is the orig Dstrom deck that was r/u and abused the bogardan hellkite. i myself have a good few diff dragon decks. what i ment by my comment is, i have done a deck like this a long time a go. with older cards that is, and it worked but then it would be beaten by certain decks and it stood no chance against those.

the most common thing for any dragon deck, 4 seething song 4 rite of flame 4 either lotus bloom or even lotus petal 4 dragonspeaker shamans. those r most common for decks like this. the next step really is to focus the deck around one or two diff dragons to score the win. speed is what kills dragon decks.

I think you missed the title, its called dragon(s) not dragon. Where is the fun in a deck that has full sets of a few cards, where's the variety?
P.s. if I ever see you cast doubling chant in this deck I will smack you.

and oblviously u havent seen the orig dragonstorm. its contains BOTH bogardan hellkite and hunted dragon.

no ur point is seen the goal of the deck is to be a dragon tribal. so how about instead of trying to bash my comments u do something smart and suggest improvements for the deck. u dont know me i dont know u, but so u know in my area im a dragon expert. i have many decks based around diff dragons including a mild dragon tribal. so i do know what i am talkin about.

alzoris, hope my suggestions help u or give u some ideas.

That's exactly the problem, you've made dragon decks foe yourself, and thus you telling to make his deck like yours. What you haven't some is give ideas to improve this particular deck.

Alz, can I call you alz? Of course I can. Take out the shivs, you've only ever used it on you're stupid 1/1 just to have them killed off.

So, I kinda looked through your deck a little bit, and honestly I wasn't impressed. I'm more or less the 'dragon guru' around my parts, and the fact that you had no 'mana ramp' in a deck focused on fire breathing, and the fact that you used fire breathing (enchant) over Captive flame kinda dumbfounded me. The way I kinda look at dragons is that each dragon in itself is almost a win condition. Why limit your win conditions to 1 or 2?

0

well its a one of a kinda dragon deck its pretty much a true tribe deck without the bigger dragons being involved and having other creatures in it. and im sure u r im the same in my area as well. with low costs drawing advantage that i have in the deck means i wont need mana ramping. even though i do have a splash if u actualy looked at it. yes each dragon is a win condition, but too many and u wont win a duel like u should. been there done that. having only 1 to maybe maybe 3 diff win conditions will help limit the deck to a strategy that will work for the deck. my deck also has consitsncy. i have most of the cards myself and it runs very well very fast.

Two mana to draw a card, Mhm that's not very cheap. needing another spell just to get the full effect of the card. Sigh.
Mana ramp means to accelerate. A wellspring only helps you drop a land most every turn, it doesnt put you ahead. Try to get your terms right.
Low win condition numbers are a control based strategy.
I consider very fast to be second or third turn win. I really doubt your deck can win third turn.
Reply again and I will simply tear apart everything you say, because from you've said now, you keep coming back because of hurt ego.

holy crap, i love when people call themselves experts, They don't realize how childish it makes them sound. Considering that none of you are actually an expert. ( Not saying i am either) Alzorius i would take the advice of demon king. The last thing i'd call your deck is consistant, it looks like a deck a beginner would make because its a hodge podge of random dragons that seem to have nothing in common except that they're dragons. He was right that a deck should be focused on specific cards. Another thing, i don't think you realize how horrible seething song and especially pyretic ritual can be, so what if you get a 7 cost dragon out on turn 5, if they doomblade it you just got card disadvantage by 2 for 1ing yourself. Especially pyretic ritual, it is far and away the worst card in your deck. This deck needs work on the curve bad. Not to mention that you should probably have more than 22 lands even with the mana accel. I put 22 lands in my aggro decks which require the least by comparison

im better at dragon decks! no me! no me!

love dragons like the deck a lot. one suggestion would be maybe having two kilnmouth dragon and one hellkite charger. the issue i have with the charger is that its attack ability really cripples your whole turn and its not like your taking anyone be surprise. having one is plenty in my opinion for a finisher once you have out a couple other dragons. kilnmouth in a dragon deck gets stupid big and has a great tap ability. just my opinion though

I love dragon,i personaly own one,but its red blue and have seething, rite, desperate ritual ... This is somewhat slow :/

Honestly, turn 4 I average a dragon, and one just about every turn after that. I've got the obelisks and Dragonspeakers which speed me up more than enough.

0

I thoroughly doubt this will average a turn 4 dragon. You've got hardly any ramp and the majority of your lands come into play tapped. The whole thing seems very cumbersome. I can't see this design being competitive with current mana curve. +2 dragonspeaker, more rituals and less 8-drops.

Its true what mortdale says : you nedd to power up ... So many tapped .. Let's say you play against Merfolk deck ... They Crush in turn three, leaving you with turn three, leavin you with 10 life, and feel afraid ...IF you want to fury, just get the dragonspeaker and 4 seething song ... Then i should say ok :)

It's not a dragon deck, but it is jund. So you may get some ideas from it.

and why no hellkite overlord? (just curious)

86% of your colored mana costs are red. With that number, I'd either a) make this mono-red, or b) drop a few of the red dragons, particularly ones with RRR in their mana cost, for some more mana-efficient creatures. Dragon Broodmother, for instance, is incredibly awesome, but will rarely be able to be put out in this deck. Even with shaman/song/ritual (only a 1/15 chance you'll have any 1 of those cards), you'll have to have some very specific mana to play it.

There are a lot of random cards here. I wouldn't really suggest playing so randomly, even if it's just for casual.

I know I shouldn't advertise my deck, but this is a very strong Dragon deck that utilizes the dragons twice.

I primarily used Jund.

Honestly most of my little creatures fit the deck perfectly! The exuberant firestoker provides extra mana while doing passive damage. Soulbright flamekin is trampling dragons for decks with flying or gravity well AND replaces the need for seething song etc a little bit later on. Bloodhall ooze can get really big really fast or I can just turn him into a dragon with sarkan if I'm in a bad match. Ætherflame wall and the mudbuttons are the only small cards here with no huge purpose or plan.

I have a question, Alzorius: with 22 lands, how are your mana draws? How often do you get mana or color screwed? I like the idea of the deck, I just personally have terrible luck with drawing mana so I tend to put a lot of lands in my decks.

0
Posted 28 August 2011 at 08:27

Honestly, I very rarely find myself 'hoping' for mana. While my actual mana base is rather small I have things to compensate for that. Oblisk of Jund is a wonderful card and provides my deck with that little bit of mana ramp and mana correction it needs. I also have a couple of creatures giving me extra mana like the soulbright flamekin and the exuberant firestoker, and my Dragonspeakers to make everything cheaper. If I find myself rushing to pump out a dragon I've got the seething song and pyritic ritual to boost my mana. All in all I rarely find myself short on mana and even less am I wishing for different mana.

Ahh, I see. If you're not drawing land there's a chance you're drawing or have already drawn one of your ramping cards. Seems pretty solid, then. I like the deck!
