Deck Description

*********************************WARNING**********************************
*******************************EXPLOSIONS!!*********************************

Yeah, I could have written a deck description, but allow me to quote Mr. Torque instead.

"I WAS TOO BUSY WRESTLING A TIGET SHARK WEARING A BOLO TIE! NOW, YOU'RE PROBABLY WONDERING, WAS I WEARING THE BOLO TIE, OR THE SHARK? ANSWER: YES."

This deck is kid tested, Mr. Torque APPROVED!!

How to Play

BY USING THIS DECK, YOU LEGALLY FORFEIT YOUR RIGHT TO CRY, EAT TOFU, OR WATCH MOVIES WHERE PEOPLE KISS IN THE RAIN AND SH*T.

In all seriousness the point of this deck is pretty straightforward. Play a creature with a damage ability and give it deathtouch, now you have a creature with a destroy other creature ability. Therefor the name of the deck is based off the idea of pointing at a creature then it spontaneously combusts.

Any card that is in the sideboard is either an easy replacement, a higher budget card, a utility card for special situations i.e. every single sorcery, or just an interesting card that someone could possibly use a little more creatively than I could.

Unfortunately the actual Spontaneous Combustion card does not fit the play style of this deck so I decided that it shall not be included in the actual deck or sideboard...

If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the deck I'm completely open to the suggestions

Deck discussion for SpontaneousCombustion(Budget)

Liked it a lot. here are some ideas..
why not basilisk collar??
with 4 basilisk collar + 4 gorgon´s head, probably the black splash would be unnecessary.
and why not use lightning bolt instead of shock?
maybe mass hysteria could accelerate your strategy and make some pressure.. or not..
and if i should splash, i´d splash blue to gain access to gelectrode and curiosity.

the whole thing is its a budget deck, and the basilisk collar costs like 8 bucks each.

I might suggest fitting fanatic of mogis in there somewhere since you have a decent amount of red devo

drop 2 thunderous wrath. you DO NOT want that in your opening hand. having 2 of them will make drawing it rare but you wont dead draw it. and like aladeus said. you could use fenatic of mogis. also lightning bolt > shock

again, budget, which is why shock is there.

Except Spontaneous Combustion is no good in this deck - not a single one of your creatures would survive it.

Oops, I guess I misread it. Thought it only applied to opponents for some reason, my bad

Goblin Sharpshooter. It's around $4 for the new one from Commander 13. Give it a gorgon's head and he turns into a killing machine.

I usually run it with Basilisks Collar, but the Gorgon's Head works too :)

I'm surprised at the lack of Goblin Arsonists in here
Also, something like Blasphemous Act could work nicely in here

0

Goblin arsonist isn't in the deck because it only deals damage when it dies. In order for this deck to work I need the creatures to be in play when they deal damage so that something like gorgon's head can give it deathtouch

I was thinking SB then use it with something like Spontainous Combustion

Remember kids, Stuffy Doll + Blasphemous Act is 13 to the face. xD I play too much commander!!!

One problem with the theme. Deathtouch only applies to combat damage.

702.2b. Any nonzero amount of combat damage assigned to a creature by a source with deathtouch is considered to be lethal damage, regardless of that creature's toughness.

0

Love to be the voice of disproving technicalities, but unfortunately, you're wrong:
Deathtouch (Any amount of damage this deals to a creature is enough to destroy it.)
Meaning that anything that means damage results in the deathtouch trigger activating

1
Posted 10 June 2014 at 02:23

You can read the explanation for deathtouch in Gorgon Flail which is in the sideboard for this deck. It states that "Creatures dealt damage by this creature are destroyed". I'm assuming that the rule you're looking at is meant to apply specifically to combat damage forms of deathtouch.

I made a deck like this a while back, and have some suggestions.

Avatar of Woe - with all the destroy spells flying around, it won't be long before you can summon it for 2 B
Gruul Draz Vampire - Super pumped vampire!
Thornbite Staff + Vampire Nighthawk or any other Shaman.
Kill-Suit Cultist - cheap chump blocker that can effectively grant deathtouch when sacrificed.

I would trade the thunderous wraths for removal (esp. of artifacts and enchantments).

How about Havengul Vampire. He gets stronger the more creatures die

Yeah, then pop a blade of the bloodchief on him ...

0

Why not Blood Cultist? It will kill creatures and get pumped to do damage afterward to the player.

goblin sharpshooter is only card holding this from modern legal. prodigal pyromancer or frostwielder could replace it

0
Posted 12 June 2014 at 03:13

I totally agree. Maybe cinder pyromancer would work. Thornbite Staff would be excellent if you focused on shamans for dealing damage.

0
Posted 12 June 2014 at 03:24

I didn't know that this was a modern deck. I thought it was casual. That was why I gave the sharpshooter as a nice addition to the theme of the deck.

0
Posted 13 June 2014 at 06:56

Once someone pointed out the card and I took a careful look at it, I saw that Thornbite Staff offered a little more utility than sharpshooter does, and at a cheaper price too. Sharpshooter was a nice addition though and he will be missed. The deck becoming modern legal after the change was just an added bonus

0
Posted 13 June 2014 at 07:21

It is casual. But why not stay modern so it can participate in some tournaments?

Wow, under 10$ ... nice!

0
Posted 13 June 2014 at 07:22

That is quite alright. My only issue with the staff is that it costs 4 to equip. Granted, there are a good amount of shamans in the deck to make it free, but I have a personal bond with Sharpshooter. He will be missed <3

0
Posted 13 June 2014 at 07:30

Well ... you can add more shamans if you would like, so you wouldn't have to pay the equip cost.

Deathbringer Thoctar could wipe out all of your opponents creatures in one with the Gorgon's Head turn plus it would get pumped up by anything else you kill

I got this deck, only took one match to realize:

Thornbite Staff + Deathtouch + Direct Damage Creature = Infinite Destroy Target Creature! (Tap, Kill, Untap, Repeat)

Chandra's Spitfire + Thunderous Wrath + Shock + 2 Direct Damage Creatures = 22 Damage in One Blow!

Your opponent isn't getting anywhere.

0
Posted 07 August 2014 at 16:57

For that thornbite staff, Vampire Nighthawk is the perfect companion. He doesn't do direct damage, but the equip cost is free.

0
Posted 07 August 2014 at 17:02

I've played this deck several times, and I'm not switching Nighthawk in. There's enough creature hate already, which works much more efficiently than a deathtouch creature with no tap direct damage. If I were to put a creature in, I'd choose one with more power, assuming that my direct hitters would take care of the opponent's creatures. I'm saving the staff for my tap direct damagers. for 3 mana, you can easily do 4 damage a turn with no blockers to stop you, and along with an occasional Thunderous Wrath, direct damage from your spare tap damagers, and other burn effects, you can win the game fairly quickly. I may switch some of the more expensive threats (Hellkite, Archetype) for Ashenmoor Gouger, A 4/4 that cannot block (you won't need to block.)

0
Posted 08 August 2014 at 16:28

I get it ... the staff is rather slow, but very impressive once it gets rolling ... consider this. It allows you to do one extra damage per creature killed. Not bad, but 6 mana is a lot to spend for ... max 6 or 7 extra damage? To be optimistic, it could go on a shaman for 2. And wiping the board of 3 or 4 creatures, while impressive, is not very necessary with all your other creatures pinging away, often with deathtouch.

I would suggest blood artist or it's ilk for damage. To really tan hides, your sideboard is full of hair-pulling beasts for under 6. Curse of Bloodletting would flat out end games.

0

I wasn't suggesting that I would equip Gouger, I just thought I would put it in to take advantage of my opponent's lack of creatures.
