Deck Description

The Modern Event Deck, March of the Multitudes, edited and made more competitive, Still A prototype and looking For further improvement. Suggestions and help welcome.

How to Play

Ideal first turn is to open with a hand disruption such as Thoughtseize, Duress, or Inquisition of Kozilek, Followed by a turn two token producer such as Raise The Alarm at instant speed. If that is not available then one of the two anthems (Intangible Virtue or Honor of the Pure) are a fine move as well. Turn Three assuming you hit all land drops the ideal move is a Spectral Procession or Lingering Souls. Spectral Procession offers more immediate power but the Flashback Ability for Lingering Souls can be very helpful. Stabilize further on turn four and realize that your life is nothing more than a resource, it is fine to go down to 10-12 life while stabilizing, instead of chump blocking. then when you have a steady board presence (And hopefully at least one anthem) you can start chump blocking and swinging with all tokens thanks to the vigilance granted by Intangible Virtue.

Deck discussion for BW Tokens Modern Competitive

Nice work here. I'd suggest replacing some basic lands with fetchlands. I know they're expensive, but at least a playset of Marsh Flats. And if you can afford it, maybe 2 more "pseudo" fetchlands (whichever are, money-wise, cheapest for getting you your Godless Shrines). Also a minimum of 1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.

I have a question about Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, It says that all lands are also swamps. does that include Urborg itself?

Yes. It itself taps for black. So do your Plains...even your Vault of the Archangel taps for black now too. =)

Run 4 Honor of the Pure. Take out Gather the Townsfolk and Duress for it. Thank me later.

Cheers

I think i may just remove the 2 Zealous Persecution in Order to run 3 Honor of the pure. Duress is very important to the deck and i think 8 anthems may be overkill.

It's not overkill at all. The Zealous Persecution is important to keep. I run 8 anthems and having them stack is very important. I run a similar list with 4 Monastery Mentor. Pump out token spells which give you buffable Monks.

If it helps you make your decision the pros all run 4 Honor and 4 Intangible for a total of 8 anthems. I pretty much copied my list off a competitive top 8 token list.

Inquisition of Kozilek/Thoughtseize are much better than Duress, and you don't need 8 hand disruption. If anything, sideboard duress for now. Instead of Soul Warden, look at Auriok Champion. It hurts burn and zoo badly, and it leaves you some defense when you inevitably run into Anger of the Gods or something of the sort. I personally recommend 3 Solemn Visitors. I recommend dropping raise the alarm for Bitterblossom. There's a reason it's so expensive, and trust me it works wonders. Aside from that, look into Timely Reinforcements for sideboard against burn/zoo, and I think you're good.
