Deck Description

Pay life to draw cards and get out a Phyrexian Unlife. Put out monsters like Avatar of Hope and Death's Shadow for little mana. Protect yourself with Faith's Shield and use Magus of the Mirror to trade life totals with an opponent once you have 0 life.

This deck rarely wins using the Magus combo, but it is still one of my favorite decks. Any suggestions to improve it will be appreciated.

Deck discussion for Masochistic Magus

Haha, this deck is waaaay fun, and I've been thinking of a similar concept. You -could- use Reverse the Sands to bring the opponent to 1 when you are sitting on counters and ping him/her somehow, or better yet, just plain win using Reverse the Sands with Near-Death Experience on the battlefield. This would require you to have something to make the opponent lose 1 life, or for you to gain 1 life, with. I don't remember quite well what it could do, but I have a memory Lich's Mirror or sth. like that is similar in purpose. Oh, and Batwing Brume is a great two drop fog for W/B that can even damage your opponent aside from protecting your from gaining counters or stuff like that.

I may put a couple Reverse the Sands in to up the chance of a life exchange win. I feel like Near-Death Experience would be kind of a lame way to win. I'll definitely have to get Batwing Brume in this deck, it's perfect. Thanks for the comment.

soul exchange would be neat in this deck, you could always throw in a worship to make it very hard to even get you below 1, and one they do they'd still have to deal with phyrexian unlife =] A few more phyrexian mana cards wouldnt hurt, like dismember... neat deck man, i like it

I don't quite understand how Soul Exchange would be beneficial. I originally had Worship in this deck, but felt that it made this deck too powerful and it is more $ than I usually spend on cards. Definitely like the idea of more phyrexian mana cards. If only Surgical Extraction was cheaper!

I had considered Soul Conduit. It may be a better choice than Magus of the Mirror just because it can be tapped at any time.
